  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Fred Astaire vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless musical performances.

Frederick Austerlitz or Fred Astaire was an American onstage dancer, singer, and actor. He is best known for successful musical comedy films and starred in more than 10 Broadway and West End musicals and films "Top Hat" (1935) and "Shall we dance?" (1937).

Astaire's tap dancing was recognized as among the best with his sister Adele. Fred’s mother changed their name to "Astaire," as she felt "Austerlitz" was reminiscent of Austerlitz Battle and a tribute to certain uncle "L'Astaire." He headed to Hollywood, had a partnership with Ginger Rogers, and opened Fred Astaire Dance Studios where he performed in film and TV. In 1960, he was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in California and ranked #73 in Empire (UK) magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time". He was named the fifth-greatest male star of Classic Hollywood cinema in 100 Years by The American Film Institute. He became a father of two kids at age 36 when his first wife Phyllis Potter and married a second time with Robyn Smith (1944–) at age 81. As a dancer, his most outstanding traits were his perfectionism, sense of rhythm, and his innovation

On June 22, 1987, at the age of 88, Astaire died of pneumonia and was buried at Oakwood Cemetery Park in California. Astaire's life has never been portrayed on film and even stated refusal on his will. He was honored as Turner Classic Movies Star of the Month (December 2013).

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Fred Astaire movie posters include a rare Style B for Stanley Kramer's nuclear apocalypse drama (poster artwork by Nicola Simbari). The Fred Astaire poster collection also includes an ultra-rare size for Stanley Donen-directed Gershwin musical, set in Paris and starring Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire & Kay Thompson.
