The Empire Strikes Back, also known as Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, is the second film in the Star Wars film series, based on a story by George Lucas. The film was directed by Irvin Kershner and written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan.

The film was creatively crafted, giving the audience deeper understanding of each character, thus it was considered as the best film in the Star Wars series, and eventually became the highest-grossing film in 1980.

The film was set three years after the destruction of the Death Star. Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) managed to escape while Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) started his Jedi training with the Jedi Master, Yoda. The movie concluded in an ultimate lightsaber battle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader (voiced by David Prowse and James Earl Jones).
