Sophia Loren is an Italian born actress (20 September 934). She was named the 21st greatest female star in Classic Hollywood Cinema by American Film Institute and currently the only actress and highest-ranked living person mentioned on the list. Loren took lessons in beauty pageant and began her film career at age 16 in 1950. She appeared in minor roles in the early part of her career. In 1956, her international career launched when she signed a five-picture contract with Paramount. Her film during this time is Houseboat, It Started at Naples, The Pride, and Passion.

Loren’s early movie Houseboat is an American romantic comedy in 1958, were she starred as Cinzia, a daughter of an orchestra conductor where he and his father argue backstage and she escapes after through a window onto the lake behind, as she desires to meet some American men. She stars in It Started in Naples, an American romantic comedy film in 1960 where she plays Lucia, a cabaret singer who takes care of his niece named Nando, also starring Clark Gable.

Loren received the Academy Honorary Award in 1991 for her contributions to the cinema world and was declared one of the world cinema's treasures. She also received the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award in 1995.
